Noel Edlin Speaking at Perrin Conferences Environmental Risk & Litigation Conference

by | Jun 3, 2019 | Environmental Law, Firm News

On June 18 Managing Partner and Environmental Litigator Noel Edlin will participate on a panel exploring the emerging environmental risks associated with the agriculture industry. Noel will discuss how using pesticides and antimicrobials to combat citrus greening and other crop blights solves one problem by killing the pest, but causes a dangerous new problem in the ecosystem — antibiotic resistance.

Antibiotic resistance negatively affects species throughout the food chain, including humans. In fact, the World Health Organization lists drug-resistant deaths among the greatest threats to humankind. Specifically, the WHO estimates that overuse of antimicrobial drugs in humans, animals, and plants is fueling resistant pathogens that could kill 10 million people annually by 2050. To make the problem worse, regulatory agencies’ efforts to address this unintended consequence are grossly inadequate.

Noel will be joined by panelists Audrey Anyaele, Ryan Gillespie, and Matthew Martello for what is sure to be an eye-opening discussion. Click here for the full conference agenda.
