Marte J. Bassi is a partner and concentrates his practice in large premises liability / product liability toxic tort cases (e.g. asbestos / DBCP). He is the Western Regional Editor for the Harris Martin publication columns. He was with Pillsbury Madison & Sutro for eleven years before joining Bassi Edlin Huie & Blum LLP six years ago. Marte has tried various complex commercial cases including a number of high profile first amendment cases (he obtained a $6 million dollar verdict for a client in a trial in 1991). He has an extensive background in real estate litigation—both commercial and residential.
Marte serves on a regular basis as a judge pro tem and an arbitrator for the San Francisco Superior Court. He is a third generation San Franciscan who attended Saint Ignatius College Preparatory and then San Francisco State University, where he earned a bachelors degree in Mathematics. He received his J.D. with highest honors from Golden Gate University in 1987. He was a writer and editor on the law review and earned the American Jurisprudence awards for Evidence, Real Property, and Ethics. He clerked in the San Francisco Superior Court Law and Motion Department for the honorable Lucy Kelly McCabe and the honorable Raymond Williamson.
